USA TODAY has toted up the scores and identified the top newsmakers according to our Celebrity Heat Index, which ranks public figures by their exposure in major celebrity media outlets;
   1. Angelina Jolie. When speculation builds about romantic troubles, take the kids out for ice cream, shopping or on a goodwill mission.
   2. Robert Pattinson. This vampire is hot, hot, hot.
   3. Brad Pitt. Tabloids always seem to have him either breaking up with No. 1 or making up with No. 4.

   With Avatar already the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time ($1 billion worldwide and counting), and likely to rise at least as high as No. 2, its stars, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, have zoomed light-years away from the near unknown status they had just a couple months ago. In a way, they’re like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who rode Titanic from semi-obscurity to cinema icon status in 1997. That’s by desing, says James Cameron, director of both films. He prefers fresh faces because of their “lack of baggage” with audiences. “A lot of stars are known for doing one thing, for having a look,” he says. “It can take a while for (audiences) to see them as a character.”
